I'm home! (and got me some new books! wii!!!)

After more than a week away from home, I'm finally back!
I've missed my house, my room, my bed, my TV, and most importantly, my dog Peyton. Here she is:
Isn't she cute? I think so.

So, I've got a few things to share with you:

Uno:
I found
Graceling! In Spanish! A year after its release in the US, just a year! Now that is important. And of course, I bought it.Notice the sentence below Graceling? It means The Seven Kingdoms I
What I liked about it was that it's the same cover than the US one. It was the 1st thing I saw when entering the store, and I grabbed it and didn't let go.

Dos:
I am officially opening a rehab centre for Bookaholics; it'll be called
BBA (Bookaholics Blogging Anonymously). No joke.
I have a problem. I buy too many books, when I should be saving for college, and for my end of HS trip to Bariloche (google it. Beautiful city, right in my province).

I must have spent like 200-250 pesos in books this month! That is
a lot.
Most of them were new, just one was used.

I got:
Graceling; VD: The Awakening, and The Struggle (just finished it); Nights in Rodanthe (lovely book, review is coming); Los Días Del Venado (can you believe I forgot it at my grandma's? noooo!!!); The Dog Walker (looks good, I read a similar book and loved it, so...); and a bunch more. (all of them in Spanish, it's hard to get your hands on books in English around here).

Tres:
So, I thought "
Maybe when I get back home I'll find something nice for me!".
Boy, was I dreaming!
I'm still (
still!) waiting for my books and mail. My 1st win was Twenty Boy Summer, more than a month ago! This is certainly testing my patience. I thank my personal god for having other books to read while waiting.

Cuatro:
Last Monday 20th was
Friend's Day here in Argentina :o)
Sadly, I was out of town, and most of my friends were too, so we're getting together this Saturday!
Do you have a Friend's Day in your Country? Or sth similar?
It's a great day, really. We share meals, mates, cakes, presents..
And we get to spend the day with our lovely group of friends,
my beautiful people, as I call them.

Cinco:
I just learned that the actress that played Victoria in Twilight won't be back for Eclipse (that character doesn't show up in New Moon)!
(old Victoria-new Victoria)

Rachelle's being replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard (The Village, Lady in the Water). I think they actually look alike, do you?
Anyway, I hate it when they do stuff like this! Changing actors is the worst move they can do. Remember when the wanted to change Taylor Lautner (Jacob) because Jacob's character's supposed to be bigger than he was in Twilight? Look at Taylor now, that's all I have to say (I still think he has a baby face, but that body...).

Ok, my BP (beautiful people), I'm going...
to bed!

Later!

I'm almost home... (and a question to you all)

...not yet though.
I'm getting home and still waiting for my books and mail to get to me!
I've been waiting for some stuff for more than a month!
I asked my mum if there was anything for me at home, and she said no... So, I wonder, why haven't I recieved my books yet?

I won 3 -maybe 4- in giveaways, and most were being sent by the publishers. So, I have a question:
How long does it take before publishers sent the books to their winners?
It must take longer to people outside the US, so that's why I have been waiting patiently until now... I thought that was the reason. I'm starting to think there could be something else behind it.
And I'm also starting to think the PO has something to do with it. Argentinian PO, that is.

So, I'm going to keep on waiting, I'm bound to get something eventually.

A question to you:
How long does it take
you to receive something you've won in a giveaway -book or not? Does it take longer if it comes from a publisher rather than a blogger?

I'm going home tomorrow so I'll be back with full energy to monkey around with you all!
Have a good Tuesday,
Ella

Today's Book: Vampire Diaries: The Awakening by L. J. Smith

Summary (from Amazon):

A Love Triangle of Unspeakable Horror... Elena Searching for the ultimate thrill, she vowed to have Stefan. Stefan Haunted by his tragic past, he struggled to resist her passion. Damon Driven by revenge, he hunted the brother who betrayed him. The terrifying story of two vampire brothers and the beautiful girl torn between them.

My Opinion:

The first thing I thought about this was "How similar to Twilight this is". There's a girl, and a guy who does everything he can to stay away from her, but eventually falls for her. And there's no Jacob, but Damon. He's evil, though.
So I can't help but wonder: Did SM get her inspiration from TVD? Looked like it.
Overall, I liked how the story wasn't told from just one of character's POV, 3rd person worked really well in this book. Cause I got to see what Elena, Stefan, and sometimes their friends thought when dealing the same situations. So that was a plus.
But it was way too short for me, and I felt like I knew how it was going to end, when I was half way through.
One of the things I didn't like was how Elena let Damon manipulate her. Sometimes you could tell he was "dazzling" her, and she did what he wanted, but then there were times were this wasn't so implicit, and I got mad at her. But I guess that was the whole point of the scene.
I really liked it, and I'll be searching the sequel soon.

Monkey Rating: 4 Monkeys!

Monkeyshines:
*How long did it take Ella to read the book?
- 4 days

*Did she like or relate to any of the characters?
- No, I felt like I was watching them from afar.

*What was her favourite line/part of the book?
- When Stefan told Elena about Katherine, I fell in love with him <3>

*Was this a good read for Ella? Did she get stuck at some point?
-It was a very good read :o)

Monkey Buys Books

This week I bought:

Crónicas Vampíricas: Despertar, by L. J. Smith
(
Vampire Diaries: The Awakening)
Published in Spain last year, and here in Arg, this year!
See what I mean when I say it takes a
while for some books to get here?
It took this book more than a decade to be released in Arg!
Now that is unfair!
I just finished this book, so the review'll be up in a week, when I come back from my vaca!

Los Días Del Venado - La Saga De Los Confines I, by Liliana Bodoc
(in English it's something like
The Days of the Deer- The Confines Saga I)
I've been told that this trilogy is beautiful, magical and mysterious, and I had to read it.
This is the First in the Saga, and I'm reading it for the
First in a Series Challenge.
I know this book is published in several languages, maybe you could find it in a book store near you.
It's about the Discovery of America, and how the natives of the South faced the Conquerors with their magic.
(YA Book)
Can't wait to read it!

Noches de Tormenta, by Nicholas Sparks
(
Nights in Rodanthe)
I think the cover is so cute, don't you?

The World's Gone Tupsy-Turvy

I just read that Miley Cyrus is going to be starring the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' The Last Song.
Really? I mean, no offence Miley, but I think I like you better when you're singing, off the screen (off of any kind of screen). Well maybe not...
She's also going to be starring Aprilynne Pike's
Wings' film adaptation.

I bet she's a sweet girl, but I sincerely do not like her acting.
Sorry Miley, this is just a thought.

What's on your Desk? Wednesday

William from Pick of the Literate tagged me to do this meme.

1. Grab a camera and take a photo of your desk, or anywhere you stack your books/TBR pile. And no tidying! Add this photo to your blog. Tag at least 5 people, and then return to Sassy Brit’s blog and leave a link back to your photo in the Mr. Linky.

2. List at least 5 BOOKISH things on your desk. List at least 5 NON BOOK things. Tag at least 5 people to do the same. Return to Sassy Brit’s blog and leave your link, so everybody can come and visit your blog.

Here's my desk:
5 Non Bookish Things:

1. A cup of mint tea (delicious!)
2. Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" (great album)
3. My mobile (I'm not one of those people that can't live without it)
4. My mp4 (this I can't live without)
5. A speaker (malfunctioning)

Just one Bookish thing:

HP and The Half Blood Prince. I'm reading it again for when the film comes, I remember what's supposed to happen. Cause when I saw a trailer, I was like "where in the book was that?" I've got until the 23rd to read it, it was going to be premiered here on the 15th, but all this swine flu thing...

5 Bloggers I'm Tagging:

1. Diane @ The Book Resort
2. Margaret Stohl @ Beautiful Creatures
3. Angie @ Angieville
4. Wdebo @ The Electrical Book Cafe and More
5. Jo @ Ink And Paper

So, what's on your desk?

Waiting on Wednesday #2

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking The Spine

The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks.

#1 bestselling author Nicholas Sparks's new novel is at once a compelling family drama and a heartrending tale of young love. Seventeen year old Veronica "Ronnie" Miller's life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Wilmington, North Carolina. Three years later, she remains angry and alientated from her parents, especially her father...until her mother decides it would be in everyone's best interest if she spent the summer in Wilmington with him. Ronnie's father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church. The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story of love on many levels--first love, love between parents and children -- that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that love can break our hearts...and heal them.

I want this book because:
1. I loved
Message in a Bottle. LOVED it.
2. I really like this author's stories (
The Notebook and A Walk To Remember are great films, I really want to read the books!)
3. I love sad stories. I do. That's who I am. I love crying when reading and watching films.

The Dust of 100 Dogs by A. S. King.
Watch that trailer, please.

This book is out now. But since I can't buy it here in Arg, and I have to wait till it gets here, it's a WoW for me.

Buy it.

And my last WoW is
Ballads of Suburbia by Stephanie Kuehnert!

Pre-order it from Amazon, B&N. (man, I wish I lived in the States to buy this!)

Nooo! Damn you Swine Flu! You cancelled my Book Fair, YOU!

Because of the Swine Flu (Arg is the 3rd country with the most amount of infected people) they've cancelled the 20th Children and YA's Book Fair! That's not fair! (pun intended).
It was supposed to start yesterday (I just found out about it being cancelled) , and I was hoping to go since I'm going to visit my grandma soon, and I could've gone (Bs As is close to Lincoln) with my Mum or my cousins.
These fairs are beautiful, they always have shows, and stands where you can play -games for the little ones and not so little ones too- and all sorts of fun things!
Last year's theme was Pirates, and it looks like this year's was going to be about Frogs (or sth related). Now we'll never now.

And it's not like they're moving it, changing the dates, they are simply cancelling it, until next year!
We don't have so many book fairs like in the US (the ALA right now, the BEA...) this is IT. This one -for YA and kids-, an International one -just finished, and I didn't know about it-, and a 'grown-ups' one -long finished (May). And it's not like you can just go to Buenos Aires, it costs money. A book here is
expensive; for you it may be us$10, but multiply that by 4. That's how much a book costs here, and arg$40 is cheap actually. Breaking Dawn, for instance, costed me arg$ 72. So it's not like I can go with, say, $100 like you do (assumption), I have to have money to spend.

I was reading Kristi's blog and Kristen's Blog (LOL) about ALA, and they were saying that they got
free books (!) and really cheap books (again !!!), and I can tell you that does not happen so often down here.

But
fear not! I will go up there and attend one (or a few, if the budget lets me) of this awesomes (not sure if that word exists, but...) Book Events! When I have $$$, that is...

Maybe visit some of my blogging friends. :o)

Today's Book: Fairy Hunters, Ink.

Summary (from lulu.com):
Have you ever wondered why your child's clothes, or even your own, always end up on the closet floor? Or why your socks go missing from your laundry? Or why ants inevitably show up at your picnics? If you want the answer to these and many other vexing questions, then "Fairy Hunters, Ink." is the book for you. All this and more await you as you follow the adventures of the intrepid band of Fairy Hunters made up of a little girl named Ashley, her friend Big Rabbit, and their fellow companion, Turtle. You will discover which fairy hates to fly, what Teacup Fairies eat, and the favorite games of the Mud Puddle Fairy. And you’ll delight to the the dry, amusing voice of Laura, the narrator whose age is uncertain, but whose gentle management of occasional conflict amoung the band’s members teaches wisdom and tolerance in a way that children can fully understand.

My Opinion:
I love magic. I do. I love Harry Potter, and Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. I love fairies, and have a fairy friend, Blossie. I had never asker her what kind of fairy she was, I was just happy she’d agreed to be my friend. But after reading
Fairy Hunters, Ink., I started wondering about this.
So, I went to Blossie’s room the other day (her room is the little theatre I built for her, which I placed in my room), and asked her what kind of fairy she was. She laughed and said “Well, I’m a Theatre Fairy. Isn’t it obvious?”. I had to admit that it was.

But it was great learning about different kinds of fairies.
There’s the Teacup Fairy, which lives in your teacup, except when you’re using it, of course. There are Sock Fairies, which live in your socks; so when you’re wondering what could have happened to your socks, you know a Sock Fairy took it to turn it into its home.
But my favourite kind of fairy is the Book Fairy. They love to read and have Book Club meetings, just like me. Now I know that when I find a book out of place, it means that a Book Fairy must have been reading it.

Fairy Hunters, Ink. is really a journal, where Sheila, Ashley, Big Rabbit and Turtle share with us their Discoveries.
If you like fairies like I do, and you’d like to learn more about them (things like what they eat, where they live, what is their favourite form of Mischief), then this is the book for you!

Monkey Rating: 3 Monkeys

Monkeyshines:
*How long did it take Ella to read the book?
- She read it in the course of three days.

*Did she like or relate to any of the characters?
- I loved Ashley! She reminded me of myself when I was her age (she’s 5) and I wanted to know everything.

*What was her favourite line/part of the book?
- The part about Turtle finding the Blue Bottle Fairies was my favourite! Turtle is a lovely Hunter.

*Was this a good read for Ella? Did she get stuck at some point?
-It was a great read! She enjoyed the book from beginning to end.

I created a LJ account...

...and I'm still learning how to use it. Here's my Journal, Ella's Random Thoughts, I couldn't come up with a better title.
But it's cool, I guess. Certainly different than Blogger. It's got more features, which makes it even cooler, you just have to learn how to use them.
I'm already "friends" with Lisa Mantchev and Maggie Stiefvater!
Nah, lol. to be a "friend" in LJ is like Following in Blogger. But I'm their mutual friend, which means they're following me too :P

Do you have a LJ account?
Give it a try! It's fun trying to figure out the many functions it has.
But until I learn how to use it properly, I'm stuck here.
I gave up on Wordpress, too hard.

I'm posting my new Fan Fiction there, Vampire Academy. It's got nothing to do with the book series. It's based on a Role Play I was a part of a few months back.

Take a look!
