Stuff You Need To Watch: Across The Universe [Movie]

So, I have Direct TV Plus, and like two months ago I recorded this movie, Across the Universe [2007], but I never got around to watching it. Until last week, when I was bored at ten in the morning, with nothing to do except watch TV. I went to My Playlist, and there it was, so I watched it. And man, I was blown away. Seriously, it was like woah. I fell in love with it.

For those of you who haven't watched it, it's the most amazing musical experience of the decade.

Here's the trailer:

"[...] A love story set against the backdrop of the 1960s amid the turbulent years of anti-war protest, mind exploration and rock 'n roll, the film moves from the dockyards of Liverpool to the creative psychedelia of Greenwich Village, from the riot-torn streets of Detroit to the killing fields of Vietnam. The star-crossed lovers, Jude (Jim Sturgess) and Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), along with a small group of friends and musicians, are swept up into the emerging anti-war and counterculture movements, with "Dr. Robert" (Bono) and "Mr. Kite" (Eddie Izzard) as their guides. Tumultuous forces outside their control ultimately tear the young lovers apart, forcing Jude and Lucy – against all odds – to find their own way back to each other." [via]

I've always loved The Beatles, but up until now I hadn't been hit by the mania. I can tell you, this changed my way to see them!

This movie's more than a love story, it's a story of war and revolution and fear and so many more things. And the way the songs are performed is just brilliant.

Hey Jude is one of my all time favourite Beatles' song, but Joe Anderson's cover is just... o.O
Enjoy :)

The cast is perfect, the locations and costumes too. Everything about it is great. Especially the music, which is only the most important thing in the movie.

I'm a really romantic person, so you can just imagine how much I wanted this to have a happy ending.

And considering I'm [almost] positive I wanna be a Director of Photography, the littlest smile on my face while watching all the images and settings and special effects, was almost just as big as my face. It is amazingly done.

If you haven't watched this, I strongly suggest you do. Soon. Like, now. Also, get the soundtrack. Get it yesterday.

Monkey Rating: 5 Monkeys (To everyone involved in it!)

Meet Cora, my MS's MC!

Cora is 17 years old, and she lives in a small town in Florida.
She has two best friends... well had. One of them died in a car crash, where Cora and her friend Audrey survived.
But do you want to hear something weird?
Cora dreamt about the accident a week before it happened.
She now has a scar beside her eye to remind her of it all.

Her favourite colour is blue, she loves The Beatles, and she wears big sunglasses to hide her face from curious people.
She's usually calm, unless you cross her. I advice you not to.

She was finally coming to terms with the fact that she can't do anything about her horrible dreams (that have the tendency of coming true), when she met Ben.
But I'll tell you about him later...

Winner! And why haven't I written my VA review by now?

This contest ended long ago, but I never told you who won.

And the winner of the Cinderella Society Swag is...
GABY!

I asked the participants to choose a Strong Woman whom they look up to, because this book is all about Girl Power.
Here's what Gaby had to say:

I choose my Mom, because she is a super mom. She works in a school and also do everything in the house, plus she takes care of me (the last daughter) and her grandchildren. I don't think I will ever be like her, because she seems to have space for everyone & everything in her life!
That is really sweet!
Congrats Gaby!

I have emailed her and am waiting for her to reply.
She has 48 hs to claim her prize.
--------------------

And did you see my review?
No.

I'll tell you why. Cause I'm lazy, that's basically why.
And now I can't write it, because the story's not fresh in my mind anymore. But I can tell you that it is awe-some.

Thank you, Goodreads, for providing me the ebook, because I haven't found these books in Arg yet.

Could this story be more intense? Seriously, I love the world Richelle created!

I'm adding Dimitri to my ever-growing list of Fictional Crushes.
Tell me you didn't read this book and imagine his Russian accent speaking to you!

I'm now reading Frostbite, just started last night. What a fantastic beginning. Thanks Richelle for the Prologue, I remembered a lot of things. Looks like Rose and Dimitri's love is cursed. Oh my!

Have you read this series? You probably have, then, tell me there's hope!

Young Writers and Illustrator Awards 2010

A Children's Books Award by Little Tiger Press, supported by a cool t-shirt label.

I was recently contacted by a member of the Children's Book Awards, where they asked me if I'd be willing to support them. I, of course, said yes.

All I have to do is put the badge up on my blog until Dec 31st. But I thought this deserved a full post.

"The Little Tiger Press Young Writer and Illustrator Awards 2010, sponsored by PriceMinister, are designed to encourage reading and creativity in children from an early age. This national competition aims to promote a life-long love of reading, writing and illustrating.

As well as the tips, games and activities being made available on this site [Young Writers and Illustrator Awards 2010] during the course of this competition, the downloadable pack you receive upon registering contains ideas for inspiring children to write and illustrate, to make it fun, and to build their confidence. When they are ready the children can then look at the stories and illustrations from our published authors and illustrators [...], and start their own work, taking up the baton to become the authors and illustrators of tomorrow!"

[via Young Writers and Illustrator Awards 2010]

I think this is a wonderful thing, getting kids to write and illustrate their own stories. The winner will fell that pride in being albe to call him or herself a winner. They'll be shown how fun reading can be.

In a world where technology has taken over (It has even taken over me, I cannot spend a day without checking my inbox), I feel kids are forgetting that there are other things, more adventures out in their gardens and up on their trees than in a computer, fighting against something unreal.

That is why, for the rest of the year, you'll see the contest badge up here.

Go to www.childrens-books-award.co.uk for more information.
