10 clues that your life has become a Southern Gothic paranormal romance

I found this on the Figment blog, and thought it was hilarious! I wanted to share it with you, so here it is!

by Margaret Stohl and Kami Garcia (authors of Beautiful Creatures and Beautiful Darkness)

10. If a mysterious stranger in town suddenly appears in your dreams – or if your dream stranger suddenly appears in your town – you may have gone Southern Gothic.

9.  If you move into the abandoned plantation house on the outskirts of town – or wish there was an abandoned plantation house on the outskirts of town – or wish your town had outskirts or inskirts or any kind of skirts at all – you may have gone Southern Gothic.

8.  If you find yourself eyeing the rebellious, dark-eyed, new boy/girl, and suppressing the urge to climb to the top of the Summerville water tower with him/her, you may have gone Southern Gothic.

7. If you hang out in graveyards for fun – and in particular, talk to the people who live there – and more importantly, if they talk back – you may have gone Southern Gothic.

6. If you read tealeaves or chicken bones, stick bottles on the tree in your front yard, or line your windowsills with salt, you may have gone Southern Gothic.

5. If you named your wooden kitchen spoon – say, for example, the One-Eyed Menace – and use it for more powerful, elemental transformations than bringing the Chili-ghetti to a boil – you may have gone Southern Gothic.

4. If you use the term “Mortal” to describe some of your friends the way someone else might say “Canadian,”  “Yankee,” or “Blonde,” you may have gone Southern Gothic.

3. If magical, angst-ridden poetry begins appearing on your walls – whether or not you wrote it – you may have gone Southern Gothic. (Ditto music magically appearing on iPod, pages magically turning in a book, or rooms magically rearranging themselves.)

2. If you start pining away for this or that or the other and nobody understands, you may have gone Southern Gothic.

1. If you find yourself falling in love before first sight, it’s too late. You’re full on, full-blown Southern Gothic. So pour yourself some sweet tea, go out on the veranda and sit for a spell. You’ll be fine so long as you keep reading.

Good Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise.

Beautiful Chaos: The Summary!!!

Ethan Wate thought he was getting used to the strange, impossible events happening in Gatlin, his small Southern town. But now that Ethan and Lena have returned home, strangeand impossible have taken on new meanings. Swarms of locusts, record-breaking heat, and devastating storms ravage Gatlin as Ethan and Lena struggle to understand the impact of Lena’s Claiming. Even Lena’s family of powerful Supernaturals is affected – and their abilities begin to dangerously misfire. As time passes, one question becomes clear: What – or who – will need to be sacrificed to save Gatlin?

For Ethan, the chaos is a frightening but welcome distraction. He’s being haunted in his dreams again, but this time it isn’t by Lena – and whatever is haunting him is following him out of his dreams and into his everyday life. Even worse, Ethan is gradually losing pieces of himself – forgetting names, phone numbers, even memories. He doesn’t know why, and most days he’s too afraid to ask.

Sometimes there isn’t just one answer or one choice. Sometimes there’s no going back. And this time there won’t be a happy ending.
I know, Jake. OMG.

Beautiful Chaos, Book Three in the Caster Chronicles Series!!! And Dream Movie Casting!

Man, I can't believe I wasn't around for the big cover reveal! But I still needed this beauty on my blog. When I look at it I see Ravenwood Manor's gate, or some gate in the Manor, but who knows?

I'd first thought that the font colouring was brown-ish, but according to MTV's Hollywood Crush, the final, printed cover will be gold! Imagine that! Amazing! When I have money, I'll definitely have these shipped to me in Argentina, no matter the cost. I need to own these books! I've read nothing but eBooks for a looong while.

And the title! THE TITLE! Perfect. Because I'm sure that's what's in store for Lena and Ethan.

Beautiful Chaos hits stores October 18th, 2011!

Can't wait to read this. I wouldn't mind reading and ARC with a different cover. *ahem, KamiMargieLittleandBrown*

Read my reviews of Beautiful Creatures and Beautiful Darkness.

On Next Movie, Kami and Margie talk about the film adaptation of the series and how excited they are about the project. (Aren't we all?)

The site has also put together a little Dream Cast of their own, which you can see in its entirety here. These below are my favourites.

Emily Browning as Lena
I can definitely see her as Lena, she looks like her and can go from sweet and innocent, to a dark creature beautifully. (And yes, that was a lame attempt from me to do a play on words with the titles.)

Steven R. McQueen as Ethan
Kami and Margie like him, and so do I.
He does great in The Vampire Diaries as Elena's baby brother, and he has the potential, I think, to be a lead actor. But he'd have to be perfect in the skin of Ethan. He's a character I love, and whoever plays him will be heavily criticised by me, and all of the BC fandom, I suppose.

Rashida Jones as Marian the Librarian
Thank you Next Movie for the suggestion!
Love her as Marian! She looks exactly like her!

Helena Bonham Carter as Sarafine
She was the first person that came to mind when reading the battle scene in BC, when Lena fights her. The role fits her like a glove. But, Next Movie suggested an alternative:

Famke Janssen
That image could very well be a part of the scene I mentioned earlier.
So I'm torn between these two.

Teresa Palmer as Ridley
Ever since watching I am Number Four, where she plays a wicked alien, I've had her in the back of my mind.
And when someone said she'd be a good Ridley, I agreed! I think she'd be perfect.

Next Movie made other suggestions:
Lucy Hale as Lena and Logan Lerman as Ethan, but I really cannot see them in those roles.
Kristen Bell as Ridley, and while I'm a huge Veronica Mars fan, I wouldn't like her as Ridley. She's what, 30?
Alfre Woodard as Amma. Nope, can't see her as Amma. Amma is older and plump-ier, and... no. Please cast someone else!
Jeremy Irons as Lena's Uncle Macon. Another big NO. Uncle Macon doesn't look like he's a hundred years old! Well, to me, anyway.

What do you think? What are your top choices?

Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles, #2), by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages:503
Overall: 4,5 Monkeys
Source:Web
Interest: Series

Summary from Goodreads:

Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.
My Opinion:

Another great book by Kami and Margie! I loved it!

From the beginning there's action and suspense, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout it.

One of the reasons I love this book so much is that it's told from a boy's POV, something very unusual in YA.

Macon died on Lena's Sixteenth Birthday, or Moon, and Ethan knows how she must be feeling. So he's there for her. Or he tries to be. Because Lena keeps pushing him away, but that's only natural, because she's hurting. She feels it was her fault he died.

Ethan gives her space and tries to talk to her, but Lena doesn't want him around.

And oh, oh, Ridley, Lena's Siren cousin, is back. But she's not alone. There's a boy with her, and Ethan has a really bad feeling about him.

He's right, of course. Ridley and Vampire Boy (as Link calls him) convince Lena that she has to leave everything behind, and go someplace where she can't hurt anyone anymore.

I felt so sad everytime Ethan tried to reach out for her, and she just pushed him away. She really wanted him gone, and it seemed as though John, aka Vampire Boy, was there to fill in Ethan's shoes if Lena so wanted. Ethan has got to be one of the strongest characters I've ever read about. Whatever challenge he was faced with, he did everything he could to overcome it, all to be with the one he loves. And there were those moments when he was feeling broken and miserable, and it made him all the more real. Boys cry too.

Lena didn't have to Claim herself on her Sixteenth Moon, but she'll have to make a choice now, a choice that could affect the Order of Things forever.

Link and Ridley are two characters I love in this series, even though Ridley can be a bit bitchy sometimes. Well, practically all the time. Link was still hung up on her, but she didn't have the same effect on him as before, and he was able to make his own choices. We see a little change in Ridley, too. Could she have the ability to care about someone? Really care about them?

Also, there's a new character: Olivia, or Liv, a British exchange student that'll be working with Marian and who'll be of great help when Ethan and Link will need her.
I didn't like her getting too attached to Ethan, he belongs to Lena! But she's not half bad. She was very interesting to read about, with her crazy temper and inventions.

And there's an OMG WTH?! revelation that involves Macon and a special someone, that I can't wait to read more about. That made me teary eyed!

At the end of the book, Ethan will need all the help he can get to get Lena back, whether she wants to or not.
Who'll be there to help him? And against who is he fighting?

There were some things that left me hanging, like John's development, and they are the reasons I'm not giving this a 5 monkeys rating. But 4,5 is great too!
